Guelph experts in nutrition and disease surveillance in farm animals will speak at a food-safety panel next week during the second annual Sheela Basrur Centre Symposium. “Fads, Facts and Fiction: How Safe Is Our Food?” will take place May 25 from 1 to 5 p.m., in the MaRS Discovery District in Toronto.

Symposium participants from across Canada will discuss food safety, food production systems, and the pros and cons of the local food movement. Population medicine professor David Kelton, an expert in disease surveillance epidemiology and dairy production medicine, will speak on farm-level food safety. Prof. Judy Sheeshka, Family Relations and Applied Nutrition, will discuss the health benefits and potential contaminant risks of eating fish.

The event is being hosted by the Sheela Basrur Centre and the Ontario Agency for Health Protection and Promotion. For more information, visit oahpp.ca or call 647-260-7100.
