The University’s Department of Athletics has announced Stuart Lang as U of G’s new head football coach.

Lang takes over the program from Kyle Walters, who stepped down in February to become special teams co-ordinator with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League.

This past season, Lang served as the receivers coach with the Gryphons. Before coming to Guelph, he spent two seasons as the receivers coach at Upper Canada College, his former high school.

Lang was a four-year starter with the Queen’s University Golden Gaels and a member of its 1970 Yates Cup championship team. With the Edmonton Eskimos from 1974 to 1981, he played slotback for eight seasons, going to the Grey Cup seven times and winning the championship five times.

Lang was also a senior business executive at CCL Industries, a specialty packaging company headquartered in Toronto.
