Two Gryphon athletes ran for Canada at the 17th annual World University Cross Country Championships this past weekend in Kingston, Ont. It was the first time the event had been held outside of Europe or Africa; about 30 countries participated.

Lindsay Carson, a third-year biological engineering student at U of G, placed 11th overall, the second-highest placement for a Canadian runner on the women’s side. The women’s team finished in third overall, capturing the first medal Canada has ever won at the championships.

On the men’s side Kyle Boorsma, a fourth-year human kinetics student, finished 15th overall, matching Canada’s best individual male performance at the championships. Overall, the men’s team placed fourth. Gryphon runners Allan Brett and Matt Brunsting finished 25th and 27th respectively.
