Following the University of Guelph’s appointments policy, Kevin Golding, chair of the Board of Governors, has asked president Franco Vaccarino whether he wishes to be considered for reappointment.

Vaccarino indicated that he is willing to serve a second full term. Appointed as U of G president in 2014, Vaccarino will end his first term June 30, 2019.

A presidential review committee will be established in coming weeks. Among its tasks, it will solicit comments about Vaccarino’s potential reappointment from the U of G community.

Following the review, the committee will provide a confidential report with its recommendation to the Board of Governors.

The review committee to be chaired by Golding will consist of three faculty members, two students and one staff member elected by the University’s Senate; one graduate appointed by U of G’s Alumni Association; and two external members of the Board of Governors appointed by the Board.

Through an email to be sent this week to campus groups, the Senate bylaws and membership committee will seek nominations from faculty, students and staff for representatives to serve on the review committee. Nominations will be due by Sept. 29.

More information about the process and the community consultation is forthcoming.
