As the cold sets in and our campuses fill up with students once again, I wish you all a warm welcome back. I hope your holiday break was relaxing and rejuvenating.
With the advent of a new year, my thoughts are on the future and what we can accomplish together over the next twelve months as we continue to advance Our Time.
Here’s to another year of opportunity, excellence, and service to our community.
Our recent rankings placements
Through your great work, U of G’s success has been recognized in several rankings over the past few months:
- Globally, we rank in the top 150 universities for life sciences and in the top 10 per cent of universities for sustainability.
- Nationally, we remain the top Canadian university for faculty and graduate student research intensity.
It is always wonderful to see us recognized for our achievements. Our ground-breaking research, teaching excellence, and commitment to sustainability all contribute to making U of G one of Canada’s top research-intensive universities. We have a lot to be proud of.
Thank you for your incredible efforts. As President, I find myself continually humbled by the talent and ingenuity I am surrounded by.
Parting thoughts

As we make our way through the semester, I want to thank you for the incredible impact that you have on our institution. Each of us contributes something invaluable to the genius of U of G.
We have been able to overcome challenges in the past by bringing our skills, our talents and our dedication to U of G together. And it is through collaboration that we will continue to Improve Life within our walls and beyond.
Finally, I hope we all remember why we are here – our students and our commitment to the U of G’s academic and research mission which are at the core of everything we do. I look forward to working with you as we advance our priorities and work to Improve Life.
Best of luck in 2024 as we kick off another exciting winter semester!
