Dr. Ann Pegoraro, the Lang Chair in Sport Management in the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics, spoke to several news outlets about the ongoing Hockey Canada controversy.
Most recently, Pegoraro spoke with Bloomberg for a piece that appeared in TIME commenting on the voluntary nature of the investigation Hockey Canada said it conducted into allegations of sexual assault.
“If you don’t make it mandatory to be part of an investigation into a complaint of this nature, then you’re essentially telling them it’s OK,” Pegoraro said.
Pegoraro also discussed with Global News and Global News Guelph how the league can rebuild the trust of fans following its mishandling of the scandal.
She said rebuilding the trust of fans will need to start at the grassroots level and gradually work its way across the system, adding that trust in Canada’s sports systems “is at an all-time low.”
Pegoraro also appeared on several CBC Radio shows and AM 640 Toronto to discuss Hockey Canada’s action plan.
She previously discussed the timing of Hockey Canada’s open letter with Global National and spoke with Global News, CBC London, TSN 690 Drive Radio Montreal, and the Bill Kelly Radio Show on 900 CHML about the allegations as well.
The director of the International Institute for Sport Business and Leadership, Pegoraro researches gender equity, sport consumers, marketing and communication and is also the co-director of the National Network for Research on Gender Equity in Canadian Sport.
