Dr. Faisal Moola, an ecology professor in the Department of Geography, Environment & Geomatics, appeared on TVO’s The Agenda with Steve Paikin for an episode to mark National Indigenous Peoples Day.
Moola discussed Indigenous-led conservation of nature along with a panel of three Indigenous experts and provided a science and policy perspective in support of Indigenous conservation.
“Western science is only now beginning to understand that the conservation values we’re trying to protect, like the habitat of caribou and old growth forests, are directly an outcome of Indigenous-led stewardship,” he noted.
Moola studies the ethnoecology of plants, environmental policy and Indigenous-led conservation in Canada.
