Simon Somogyi, the Arrell Chair in the Business of Food, shared some thoughts on the impacts of rising food costs for Canadians in a co-authored opinion piece for the Toronto Star.
Supply chain issues and the ongoing war in Ukraine are impacting food costs, but so are Ottawa’s response to inflation and the actions of the Dairy Farmers of Canada and the Canadian Dairy Commission, Somogyi argued.
“What is hitting Canada is a global phenomenon; food prices are not going to come down any time soon,” they wrote.
Somogyi is a professor in the School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management. His research focuses on agri-food value chain analysis and management. He is also a lead author on Canada’s Food Price Report.
