Two U of G professors were featured in a CBC Radio report about their separate but related work to fight Lyme disease.
Dr. Melanie Wills, director of the G. Magnotta Lyme Disease Research Lab at U of G, told the news outlet that her team is researching ways to improve upon the current two-tiered testing method for Lyme disease to help detect earlier signs of the disease and provide accurate results, among other benefits.
The article noted that the lab is entering a new chapter in its research after receiving a three-year $1.2 million grant from the G. Magnotta Foundation for Vector-Borne Disease last week, coinciding with the start of Lyme disease awareness month.
CBC also spoke with Dr. Olaf Berke, a statistical epidemiologist in the Department of Population Medicine, who is researching the use of web searches to spot tick and Lyme disease hot spots.
Berke also recently spoke with The Weather Network about his research.
