Protesters are still at the blockade in Ottawa despite provincial and federal government measures aimed at ending the protests. The Toronto Star published experts’ answers to “five burning questions” about how the protest is being handled, in which police oversight researcher Dr. Kate Puddister provided answers on what’s at risk if the protests continue.  

In the article, Puddister said there are high stakes for “the effectiveness and legitimacy in both the police and police governance by our politicians” from the public, following “feelings of helplessness and abandonment” by those directly impacted by the protests.  

A professor in the Department of Political Science within the College of Social and Applied Human Sciences, Puddister researches law and politics, criminal justice and criminal justice policy.
