Dr. Timothy Dewhirst, a marketing professor in U of G’s Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics, contributed a commentary to the Toronto Star about Canada’s plain packaging regulations for tobacco products.
Noting that tobacco marketers have continued to try to use cigarette packaging itself as a promotional tool, Dewhirst said Canada has imposed new stipulations so that cigarettes can only be sold in slide-and-shell packs. Other formats, including flip-top packs, are no longer allowed.
