A Globe and Mail article about B.C. floods and the fragility of Canada’s food system, featured Dr. Evan Fraser, director of the Arrell Food Institute at the University of Guelph.
Recent floods in B.C.’s agricultural heartland touched off food-supply disruptions. As the climate changes, the food system will become more vulnerable, according to the article.
Fraser said the food system will have to change to avoid disruptions. The fact that so much food travels very long distances only makes the problem worse, he said.
Fraser is a professor in the College of Social and Applied Human Sciences. He utilizes multidisciplinary research to understand food systems and their vulnerability to environmental change.
