Dr. Andrew Young, a professor in the School of Environmental Sciences, spoke to the Toronto Star podcast This Matters about why there have been population spikes this summer of certain insects such as cicadas and Gypsy moths.
Young also offered insight on why it seemed like there were more black flies and midges this year and offered tips for avoiding Lyme disease.
A professor of systematic entomology, Young focuses his research on the taxonomy and phylogenetics of flower flies (Syrphidae), a group of pollinators native to eastern Canada.
