Dr. David Wolyn, a professor in the Department of Plant Agriculture, was featured on CTV Kitchener for his work in the breeding and development of several popular asparagus varieties.
As a lead researcher in U of G’s asparagus breeding program, Wolyn helped develop asparagus varieties such as the Guelph Eclipse, Guelph Equinox and the Guelph Millennium. The latter is now the predominant variety grown in Ontario because it produces yields three to four times higher than typical varieties.
In 2019, Wolyn won the U of G Innovation of the Year award for his work with asparagus.
