University of Guelph entrance wallPost-doctoral researchers at the University of Guelph have voted in support of union certification with the United Steelworkers (United Steel, Paper and Forestry, Rubber, Manufacturing, Energy, Allied Industrial and Service Workers International Union).

Out of 95 uncontested ballots cast, 90 per cent favoured certification. About 150 post-doctoral researchers work at the University.

While certification will mean a more formalized working relationship between the University and post-doctoral researchers, Ben Bradshaw, assistant vice-president (graduate and postdoctoral studies), said he expects the University’s constructive relationship with these researchers will continue.
