U of G ecologist Dr. Faisal Moola, a professor in the Department of Geography, Environment and Geomatics, co-wrote an opinion piece that appeared in the Toronto Star about plans to expand mining operations near Grassy Narrows First Nation.
Moola, along with co-authors from the University of Victoria who research Indigenous-led conservation in Canada, explained why Grassy Narrows passed a Land Declaration in 2018 that prohibits all industrial and mining activity on their lands due to concerns such activities could worsen the area’s mercury crisis.
Moola is an ecologist who studies conservation policy and Indigenous-led conservation in Canada.
