Prof. Marion Joppe, School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management, spoke to Zoomer Radio about summer travel and whether it’s a good idea to take road trips to explore other parts of Canada this summer.
She said many Canadians still aren’t psychologically ready to return to travel or even to head back to restaurants, noting that the entire industry has been badly hurt by this pandemic.
Global News also recently spoke with Joppe about summer travel. She said while travelling to rural areas may seem like a nice break from the city for many urban dwellers, those towns may not appreciate the visits.
“People aren’t necessarily welcome, or made to feel welcome, in some of the communities because people are anxious,” she said.
Joppe researches the economic, social and environmental impacts of tourism and has done several interviews with various media outlets in recent weeks.
