What will the hockey industry look like after the COVID-19 pandemic is over?
That’s the question Prof. Norm O’Reilly, School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management, addressed in a recent Globe and Mail article.
O’Reilly, an expert in the business of sport, said the suspended NHL season is costing the league and its partners a fortune, but that could turn around if the league can return to arenas and airwaves by late spring. But he added if the pandemic leads to a global recession, the hockey world is going to feel the hit.
The director of the International Institute for Sport Business and Leadership at U of G’s Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics, O’Reilly studies marketing, sponsorship, sport finance, social marketing and tourism management.
