Prof. Evan Fraser, the director of U of G’s Arrell Food Institute, spoke to The Globe and Mail about how well grocery stores will be able to handle the numerous shotdowns brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fraser noted that Canada as a whole is in a relatively enviable position because while some of the foods we enjoy are imported – particularly fresh produce we are reasonably self-sufficient and are a net food exporter, particularly our beef and grain products.
Fraser holds the Canada Research Chair in Global Food Security and studies food security, food prices, rural agricultural policy and how each is affected by climate change. He is a professor of geography and helps lead the Food from Thought initiative.
