Prof. Ali Dehghantanha

The University of Guelph has an expert who is available to comment on the threats posed by cyberattacks on small and large businesses.

This week, Waterloo Brewing Ltd. announced it had been the victim of a social engineering cyberattack that resulted in a wire transfer of $2.1 million of the company’s funds to a fraudulent third-party account. The brewery gave few details about the attack.

Prof. Ali Dehghantanha, director of the Cyber Science Lab in U of G’s School of Computer Science, is available to offer comment on how such attacks can happen, the threats they can pose and what kinds of comparable attacks have affected the brewing industry.

Dehghantanha heads a new graduate degree in cybersecurity and threat intelligence. His research is directed toward building AI agents for active threat hunting in Internet of Things (IoT) products. He also researches cyber forensics and anti (online) money laundering.
