The 2018 Gairdner Lecture, “From Genomic Imprinting to the Human Germline,” will be presented by Azim Surani at the University of Guelph on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Surani received the 2018 Canada Gairdner International Award for discovering mammalian genomic imprinting involved in gene expression as well as development and disease.

He is the Marshall-Walton Professor and director of germline and epigenomics research at the Wellcome Trust/Cancer Research U.K. Gurdon Institute at the University of Cambridge.

The Gairdner Foundation, established in 1957, recognizes international excellence in fundamental research benefiting human health. Out of 380 Gairdner laureates from 35 countries, 89 have gone on to receive Nobel Prizes. The foundation conducts outreach programs across Canada and coordinates activities with the public, policy-makers and other stakeholders on the impact of science in everyday lives.

Surani’s lecture will take place in Pathobiology/AHL 1800, and is free and open to the public.
