Frank Cain, assistant facility manager and business development manager in the Department of Athletics, recently received the Ontario Recreation Facility Association (ORFA) 2014 Award of Merit. The award recognizes significant volunteer time and effort devoted to the development and advancement of ORFA through education, training and research projects.
Cain, who graduated from U of G in 1994 and has worked at the University since 2006, received the award for his contributions to the professional development of those in the recreation and facilities industry. He sits on ORFA’s grounds and technical advisory committee and is developing a grounds management and operations course that will help to further educate senior managers. The course is set to launch in 2015 at ORFA’s annual professional development event hosted at U of G.
Through his work at Guelph, Cain has played a large role in the redesign and construction of many facilities on campus, including the soccer complex and fieldhouse. He says providing students and community members with the best experience is his favourite part of his job.
“Improving the experience for the students, the kids and the users of our facilities is what it’s all about. In the process, we are developing the person as a whole, which is what makes the job so rewarding,” says Cain.
