Bespoke microbial communities, improved cancer therapies and new carbon capture solvents are among the topics U of G researchers will explore with more than $31.8 million in new funding from the federal government.
The funding is part of a more than $1.7-billion investment announced by Pablo Rodriguez, minister of transport on behalf of François-Philippe Champagne, minister of innovation, science and industry, and Mark Holland, minister of health.
In total, U of G researchers will receive funding as follows:
- more than $4.5 million in tri-agency scholarships and fellowships for 93 U of G graduate students and postdoctoral researchers
- almost $300,000 in Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Insight Development grants, which support the early development of research projects, for six researchers in the College of Arts, College of Social and Applied Human Sciences, and the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics
- more than $6.5 million in Research Support Fund and Incremental Project grants
- more than $4.5 million from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) through its Innovation Fund
- $2.5 million from the Canada Research Chairs program
- more than $13.5 million from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Alliance program
