Part of the World in 2030 Event Series

Jessie Thomson discusses humanitarian action in the 21st century. Thomson will speak about the role of humanitarian aid in today’s international development landscape and discuss  the strategies and skills that will be required to address current and future challenges in the sector.

Thomson holds an honours BA degree in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Toronto and a Master of Science degree in International Development Studies from the London School of Economics. She spent five years as CARE Canada’s senior director of the Humanitarian Assistance and Emergency Team and now leads the organization’s Partnerships for Global Change unit. Prior to joining CARE, Thomson spent 2009-2010 in Pakistan as the protection delegate for the International Committee of the Red Cross and five years in the federal public service working on refugee and humanitarian policy.
