At 6:30 a.m. on June 13, the Campus Safety Office (CSO) was notified that the Gryphon statue located at Gordon Street and Stone Road had been vandalized with red paint. Per CSO policies, Guelph Police Service was called and attended. Staff from the University’s Physical Resources department have removed the paint and do not expect any long-term damage to the statue.

The Gryphon statue holds deep significance for our campus and community, often serving as a backdrop for cherished moments captured in photos at the beginning of the school year and during convocation.

“We condemn these actions, which contradict Gryphon values. It is disheartening to witness such attempts to negatively impact convocation celebrations,” said Gwen Chapman, Provost and Vice-President (Academic).

Anyone with information on the vandalism is asked to contact the Campus Safety Office at 519-824-4120, ext. 52245.
