Veterinary clinic staff support heartbroken owners who have lost a pet. But how clinics handle pet euthanasia varies. University of Guelph graduate student Alisha Matte is surveying clinics to understand practices and ultimately establish guidelines to better help grieving pet owners. Matte, a PhD student in the Ontario Veterinary College’s population medicine department, told CBC that veterinarians and clinicians already do their best to support owners, who feel as though they are losing a family member.
