University of Guelph athletes won six medals — one gold, three silver and two bronze — at the Canadian Track and Field Championships in Moncton, N.B., June 20 to 23.

Leading the Gryphons was Andrea Seccafien, who won the women’s 5,000-metre. Her performance guaranteed her a spot on the Canadian team for the Francophone Games in Nice, France, this September.

In the men’s 5,000m, Andrew Nixon and Aaron Hendrikx won silver and bronze medals, respectively. Nixon had previously qualified to represent Canada at the World University Games starting July 6 in Kazan, Russia.

Joining Nixon in Russia will be Anthony Romaniw, who won silver in the men’s 800m.

Brent Roubos won silver in the men’s discus, and Julia Wallace won bronze in the women’s triple jump.
