With Dr. Aysha Iqbal Viswamohan, Professor, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Madras, India.

The talk will explore representation of women in Indian media and what image of a contemporary Indian woman is formed in films, over-the-top (OTT) platforms and social media, particularly in post “MeToo” times. It will follow up on key ideas and themes discussed at the two-day online conference in 2021, “Towards a New Vision: Women in Films, Media & Beyond,” which featured 20 gender studies and media studies experts. The conference was co-organized by IIT Madras and the University of Guelph with funding from the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute.

Aysha Iqbal Viswamohan is a professor in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at IIT Madras. She works in the areas of Film Studies, Popular Culture and American Literature.
