April 2 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Join us for the launch of Cooking up History: 30 years of the culinary historians of Canada. The cover of Ross Murray's Comfortable Kitchen cookbook, on which a cross stich style design shows a ladle scooping soup out of a full pot.

Join us on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, from 3 to 5 p.m. as we launch our newest exhibition, Cooking Up History: 30 Years of the Culinary Historians of Canada.

This exhibition commemorates the 30th anniversary of the Culinary Historians of Canada and the inductees of Taste Canada’s Hall of Fame. Cookbooks written by some of Canada’s most beloved food writers, chefs, and television personalities will be highlighted. Published between 1854 and 2021, the thirty-five books on display—one by each of the Hall of Fame inductees—were drawn from U of G’s Culinary Collection, housed in the McLaughlin Library’s Archival & Special Collections.

This exhibition was curated in part as an experiential learning project by students in Dr. Rebecca Beausaert’s Food History course and in Melissa McAfee’s Behind the Scenes in Archival and Rare Book Collections course – a collaboration between U of G’s Department of History in the College of Arts and the McLaughlin Library.

At the launch, you’ll hear from keynote speakers including:

  • Chef Jamie Kennedy, Jamie Kennedy Kitchens
  • Fiona Lucas, Food Historian and Co-Founder, Culinary Historians of Canada

Light refreshments will be served.

Kindly RSVP by no later than Wednesday, March 27, 2024.

The online version of the launch will be held via Zoom.
