U of G Celebrates Indigenous Recognition Week

Indigenous Recognition Week is hosted March 2 to 6, 2026 by the Indigenous Student Centre, in collaboration with the Indigenous Student Society and the Office of Indigenous Initiatives. Held annually in March, Indigenous Recognition Week is an opportunity for the campus community to engage and learn together at a variety of events while celebrating First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people and cultures.  

All events are open to students, staff, and faculty, please join us! 

Indigenous Recognition Week Events

Monday March 2, 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Peter Clark Hall 

The Indigenous Student Society and College of Biological Sciences welcome you to hear from three Indigenous guest speakers from across Turtle Island as they discuss their work in CBS-related disciplines. Free lunch is included with registration.   

Monday March 22 to 4 p.m. in UC 441 

Immerse yourself in the history and symbolism behind each bead while gaining a deeper appreciation for what makes Métis beadwork uniquely Métis! 

Tuesday, March 3, 4 to 6 p.m. virtual on Microsoft Teams 

This event will focus on expanding our knowledge on Two-Spirit Identities. Seán will discuss nuances and themes around Two-Spirit identities, biology vs. culture vs. race, as well as Pan-Indigenous philosophies, misogyny, and their impacts on the community.  

Wednesday, March 4, noon to 1:00 p.m. in the UC Courtyard 

Join the Indigenous Student Centre and the Indigenous Student Society as we welcome three Métis performers to campus to celebrate, dance, and enjoy a free Indigenous inspired food tasting.   

Thursday, March 5, noon to 1 p.m. at the Art Gallery of Guelph 

Join the ISC for a visit to the Art Gallery of Guelph to view and learn about  “Kananginak Pootoogook”, part of the Art Gallery of Guelph’s (AGG) Inuit Print collection. We will be guided by Erin Szikora, the Curator of Contemporary Art at the AGG 

Thursday, March 5, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Indigenous Student Centre 

Indigenous Initiatives provides guidance to the campus community aimed at advancing the University of Guelph’s commitments to reconciliation and decolonization with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples, communities and lands. Enjoy snacks and beverages while chatting with the Indigenous Initiatives team to share your perspectives and feedback.
