The University of Guelph and the University of Guelph Faculty Association (UGFA) – the union representing approximately 875 faculty, librarians and veterinarians – have been in negotiations for a new collective agreement for several months. Discussions continue to progress and the two parties will be meeting with a mediator on Oct. 19 and 20 with bargaining dates scheduled into mid-November if necessary.
UGFA has conducted a strike vote of its membership and requested a “no-board” report, both of which are standard procedures of the bargaining process. These steps mean that UGFA would be in a legal strike position near the end of the month. While this does not mean a strike is probable, both the University and UGFA must prepare in the event a strike does occur. Should a strike become imminent, the University will proactively notify the U of G community.
We continue to share updates about negotiations on U of G’s Negotiations webpages. The University is committed to reaching an equitable and fair agreement that acknowledges the essential contributions of our faculty.
