Health officials in Ontario have confirmed a child has died after coming into contact with a rabid bat. This comes after Brant County Health Unit confirmed a case of domestic rabies in September, the first in the province since 1967.

Dr. Scott Weese, chief of infection control at the Ontario Veterinary College, researches the spread of diseases from animals to humans. He is available to discuss how rabies can transmit from bats to humans.

Weese and his team have been following the case on his Worms and Germs blog.
