With a $1-million gift from The Justin Eves Foundation, the University of Guelph and University of Guelph-Humber will create two endowment funds to establish new scholarships for students experiencing learning disabilities.

U of G will receive $600,000, while U of GH will receive $400,000. There will be five scholarships provided in each of the first two years and ten scholarships commencing in the 2026-27 academic year.

The scholarships will be made available to students registered with Student Accessibility Services, enrolled in any program to students, with dyslexia or dyslexic characteristics. Selection will be based on academic achievement, financial need and community leadership.

“The Eves family is honoured to bring Justin’s legacy to the University of Guelph to help students like him to thrive when they are provided the resources to succeed,” says Ernie Eves, Justin’s father, chair of the foundation and former premier of Ontario. “Justin’s sister Natalie, his mother Vicki and I are pleased to make a difference in the lives of these students.”

Since 1996, The Justin Eves Foundation has been the only foundation in Canada dedicated to supporting students with learning disabilities from all over Ontario in their post-secondary education. The foundation has helped nearly 1,000 students, honouring what was important to Justin during his lifetime – assisting other young people with learning disabilities fulfill their potential.

“We are grateful for this generous gift from The Justin Eves Foundation to enhance learning opportunities for our students and maintain our commitment to Improve Life,” says Dr. Rene Van Acker, vice-president, research and innovation (acting president and vice-chancellor).

“A post-secondary education opens doors for students to shape their future, whether it be into a career or into future studies. We are deeply honoured to receive this gift from The Justin Eves Foundation, which will expand opportunities for our students to pursue their academic dreams,” says Dr. Melanie Spence-Ariemma, vice-provost and chief academic officer.
