The University of Guelph has named Dr. Mazyar Fallah, dean of the College of Biological Science, as interim provost and vice-president (academic) in anticipation of the retirement of Dr. Gwen Chapman.

Fallah will step into the role on July 1, providing a month of overlap before Chapman retires on July 31, and will remain in the role until the search for provost is successfully completed.

“We congratulate Gwen on her retirement and thank her for her dedication and years of service to U of G,” said Dr. Charlotte Yates, president and vice-chancellor. “Fallah is a great asset to the role of interim provost and his experience will be invaluable in helping us achieve U of G’s strategic plan.”

Fallah joined U of G in 2021 as dean of the College of Biological Science and a professor in the Department of Human Health & Nutritional Sciences, prior to which he was a faculty member in the School of Kinesiology and Health Science at York University for 15 years. He looks forward to serving in this important role during the transition.

As Fallah steps into the role of interim provost, Dr. Graham Holloway, professor of Human Health and Nutritional Sciences, will be filling in as interim dean of CBS.
