The announcement was made today by president and vice-chancellor Dr. Charlotte Yates.

“I am very happy to welcome John into this new leadership role,” said Yates. “From our conversations, I know that he shares our strong vision for the future of the University, and my excitement for the potential of the Strategic Transformation in modernizing the University. Most importantly, John possesses the skills to help us realize our goals.”

Livernois previously served as the University’s associate vice-president (research) from 2012 to 2018 and chair of the Department of Economics and Finance from 2003 to 2011. Most recently, he served as interim executive director Research Innovation Office from 2019 to 2020.

Throughout his leadership roles, Livernois has advanced significant innovations that resulted in millions in savings for the University. He also worked with all seven colleges to promote and support the University’s research and scholarship strengths, as well as overseeing the Office of Research Services while working closely with funding agencies.

“Strategic transformation is an opportunity for us to change how we work for the better – so that we can continue to improve life in our communities and around the world,” said Livernois. “I am excited to get started.”
