Dr. Christine Baes, a livestock genomics researcher in the Ontario Agricultural College, discussed her work to breed dairy cattle to produce less methane with Reuters for an article examining this new approach.
The article appeared in several publications, including CBC News, The Globe and Mail and the Jakarta Post.
Baes helped create the first national genetic evaluation tool to help select low-methane dairy cows with a team of U of G research.
The Canada Research Chair in Livestock Genomics, Baes is the head of the Resilient Dairy Genome Project, which uses genomics tools to breed cattle that process their feed more efficiently and release fewer gases.
She is a professor and the chair of the Department of Animal Biosciences.
