Dr. Shayan Sharif an avian immunologist with the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) explained how Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPIA) has led to higher egg prices to the Toronto Star.  

Sharif said he has never seen an avian influenza outbreak as “vast and massive” as this one, which has a 90 to 100 per cent mortality rate in chickens. 

Sharif is the associate dean of research and graduate studies at OVC. He is also a professor in the Department of Pathobiology, where he researches chicken immunology.
