Dr. T. Ryan Gregory, an evolutionary and genome biologist in the College of Biological Science, co-authored a commentary for the Calgary Herald about the causes of the surge of respiratory infections in children that are overwhelming pediatric hospitals.

The piece was co-written with Dr. Joe Vipond, an emergency doctor and clinical assistant professor at the University of Calgary and Dr. Lisa Iannattone, a dermatologist and assistant professor of medicine at the University of Montreal.

Gregory also recently provided insight to the Boston Globe into why the flu and RSV have been worse this season than usual.

Gregory offered his thoughts on what role the virus that causes COVID might be having on the surge of flu and RSV infections this year.

A professor in the Department of Integrative Biology, Gregory researches large-scale genome evolution and integrative genomics and evolutionary biology.
