Dr. Simon Somogyi

Dr. Simon Somogyi, agribusiness researcher at the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics, discussed this year’s Canada’s Food Price Report and how high food prices are affecting the holidays with several news outlets. 

In an interview with The Canadian Press, Somogyi discussed some ways that shoppers can reduce food costs. The interview appeared in dozens of publications including CTVNews.ca and the Toronto Star.  

He also appeared on CTV National News, Global News Morning and CHCH News in Hamilton. 

Somogyi shared with The Globe and Mail the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war, droughts, and bacterial contaminations have had to increase prices.  

Somogyi also spoke with CBC News that “more people are trying to cut back on excess” this holiday season because of high food prices.  

The Arrell Chair in the Business of Food and a professor in the School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management, Somogyi researches agri-food value chain analysis and management.
