The cover of Dinner on Mars by Lenore Newman and Evan D. G. Fraser

What are some of the technologies that would be needed to feed a human colony on Mars? And how could those technologies transform agriculture on Earth?

Dr. Evan Fraser, the director of U of G’s Arrell Food Institute, examined these questions and more in several media appearances.

Fraser is the author of an upcoming book entitled Dinner on Mars: The Technologies That Will Feed the Red Planet and Transform Agriculture on Earth, along with co-author Lenore Newman, the director of the Food and Agriculture Institute at the University of the Fraser Valley.

While on an episode of TVO’s The Agenda, Fraser discussed how the book came about and the ideas it sets forth. He also explained that “doing the thought experiment of Mars, (will help point) to solutions” for improving agricultural efficiency and policies on Earth.

Fraser also explored these implications on a CBC Radio Ideas broadcast and in an opinion piece for CNN.

Fraser helps lead the Food from Thought initiative and holds the Canada Research Chair in Global Food Security.
