Dr. Bruce McAdams, a professor in the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics, discussed how tipping etiquette is changing on an episode CBC Radio’s Ontario Today.
McAdams said an increase in tipping rates began pre-pandemic, but the practice has spread to other retailers, both to attract and retain customers and to subsidize wages.
For more than 10 years, McAdams has researched and published papers on tipping with Dr. Mike von Massow. McAdams also studies sustainability issues within the food service industry in the School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management.
