Computer engineering professor Dr. Graham Taylor discussed his latest research on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to monitor invasive zebra and quagga mussels with CBC Radio’s Fresh Air.
Taylor explained the effects of the mussels on the Great Lakes ecosystem and explained his research using AI and deep learning to map the extent of the issue with the mussels.
A professor in the School of Engineering, Taylor researches ways to build human-centred AI systems as well as applied projects leveraging computer vision to mitigate biodiversity loss.
