Throughout the pandemic, the University has focused on the safety of our community and on creating safe places to learn, work and live. Over the past two years, we have developed and adapted our plans, when needed, to meet that commitment.
Based on the increasing number of cases in the province and to help curb the spread of COVID-19, the University of Guelph will keep its mask requirement in place beyond May 1. Masks will continue to be required indoors in all U of G-managed facilities until further notice. We will review our mask requirement regularly, taking into consideration changing public health trends. An update will be provided when our mask requirement changes. As we have seen with transmission peaks and valleys over the past two years, we can expect that the University’s mask requirements will vary over time.
Further details on our mask requirement beyond May 1 will be provided in the next COVID-19 Update.
As announced in March, U of G’s COVID-19 vaccination policy and daily screening requirements will be paused as of May 1. The University may reinstate these requirements with little notice. We strongly encourage everyone to stay current with their vaccination and booster doses. This not only provides you with the best protection against serious effects of COVID-19 but also prepares you should vaccination be reinstated as a requirement for campus access, including in-person learning.
Remember: If you’re sick, stay home and visit our What to do when you’re sick or have been exposed web page.
Our extended masking policy and enhanced ventilation are helping protect our community. To date, more than 95 per cent of our University population has reported being fully vaccinated against COVID-19. That is an impressive number and one we should all be proud of.
We are grateful for your understanding and your patience as we navigate the continually changing landscape of COVID-19 and look forward to better days ahead.
Sincerely,
