U of G historian Dr. Kimberly Martin has made national headlines for her contributions to Saving Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Online (SUCHO), an initiative aimed at preserving Ukraine’s digital history as the country battles Russia’s invasion. 

Martin spoke to The Globe and Mail about her experience thus far with the project. She said playing Ukrainian folk music in the background as she works has “made it more meaningful and tangible” to her and that working with so many people has been pleasantly surprising.  

Speaking about her role as the initiative’s metadata coordinator to CBC, Martin explained how she got involved with the project.  

Martin spoke about the initiative’s importance and the reasoning behind it to Guelph Today, in an article republished by City News Kitchener, and said SUCHO is a way of safekeeping Ukrainian culture as Ukrainians focus on keeping themselves safe.  

Her work with SUCHO was also highlighted in Academica Top Ten.

A professor in the Department of History in the College of Arts, Martin studies digital history and humanities.
