Dr. Scott Weese, a professor in the Department of Pathobiology, spoke to the Canadian Press for an article that appeared in several news outlets about how veterinary clinics are coping with increased demand amid a surge in pet ownership.
Weese said many Canadians adopted new pets throughout the pandemic, which overwhelmed clinics already at capacity with existing clients. He suggested online care may help alleviate some of the pressures clinics are facing.
The chief of infection control at the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) and director of the Centre for Public Health and Zoonoses, Weese researches bacterial infections in animals and humans, emerging infectious diseases and infection control.
