Prof. Andria Jones-Bitton, a professor in the Department of Population Medicine, was featured in the September issue of Canadian Poultry magazine in a special issue that put the spotlight on women doing impactful work in agriculture.
The article notes that Jones-Bitton’s studies have shed light on the issue of growers and producers are struggling with higher-than-average levels of stress, anxiety and depression and are at a higher risk of burnout.
“Her work has inspired others to conduct their own research and develop support tools to help farmers cope with these challenges,” the article’s note from the editor reads.
An epidemiologist in the Ontario Veterinary College, Jones-Bitton has studied mental health issues among veterinarians and veterinary students, as well as food-borne, water-borne and zoonotic disease.
