Phishing awareness and prevention is a priority for U of G’s Information Security team. To help protect your U of G email, starting May 4,  a warning message will be added to all email messages that come to uoguelph.ca email accounts from an external sender. This proactive anti-phishing measure applies to all uoguelph.ca email accounts.

What does this mean for me?

As of May 4, when you receive an email in your uoguelph.ca inbox from an account not associated with the University (i.e., not from a uoguelph.ca account), the following warning message will be included at the top of the message:

CAUTION: This email originated from outside of the University of Guelph. Do not click links or open attachments unless you recognize the sender and know the content is safe. If in doubt, forward suspicious emails to IThelp@uoguelph.ca

How does this help?

Many organizations add similar warnings to email messages received from external accounts. This measure has proven to be very effective in helping users recognize potentially dangerous email messages. When you see this message, it should remind you to view the message (and any links or attachments) with extra caution.
