On March 8, people around the world celebrate International Women’s Day – an opportunity to acknowledge women’s achievements and press for gender parity.

Events held in support of International Women’s Day are happening across campus in early March.

  • Elder Jan Sherman: The Sacredness of Women
    Thursday, March 5 – 11 a.m. to noon – Aboriginal Resource Centre
    Elder Jan Sherman will discuss relevant topics around the sacredness of women through the sharing of traditional Anishinaabe Teachings.
  • GenEQ International Women’s Day Breakfast for Faculty and Staff
    Friday, March 6 – 8 to 10 a.m. – Summerlee Science Complex
    All faculty and staff are invited to a continental breakfast in celebration of International Women’s Day, hosted by the GenEQ advisory committee.
  • International Women’s Day Noon Hour Concert: LIZA
    Friday, March 6 – noon – University Centre Courtyard
    Toronto-based R&B artist, LIZA performs a special noon hour concert for International Women’s Day.
  • GenEQ tables in the University Centre
    Friday, March 6 – all day – University Centre Courtyard
    Drop by and learn about the GenEQ: Advancing the status of women at U of G initiative. Students from the GenEQ advisory committee will be available to answer questions and hand out stickers.
  • Research and Revolt Conference
    Friday, March 6 to Saturday, March 7 – University Centre, Room 442
    U of G’s Research Facility for Women’s Health and Wellbeing will be holding the fourth annual two-day interdisciplinary conference to showcase innovative research related to women and girls.

    Wednesday, March 11 – Peter Clark Hall, University Centre
    HeForShe at U of G celebrates the strength and resilience of our community. The event features keynote speaker Jennifer Smith, Senior Vice President of Technology and Operations at Cineplex Digital Media.
