Prof. Mike von Massow was interviewed for an Aug. 7 National Post story about companies raising the prices of canned goods to combat aluminum tariffs.
The professor in U of G’s Department of Food, Agricultural and Resource Economics said companies selling products packaged in aluminum face pressure to increase their prices.
The story originally ran in the Canadian Press and got picked up by the Ottawa Citizen and the Toronto Sun.
Von Massow said the past few years have been particularly competitive in the food business and some companies might use the tariffs as an excuse to raise prices. Not all will publicize the increases, he said.
He studies food value chains and revenue management.
