Possible repercussions from exploding Note 7 smartphones for Samsung’s dominant position in South Korea were the focus of an op-ed article in the Globe and Mail Oct. 13 co-authored by Prof. Timothy Dewhirst, Marketing and Consumer Studies. He said the issue will renew calls in that country to rethink family-owned business conglomerates, called chaebols. Dewhirst studies brand strategy, business ethics, marketing and public policy, and marketing communication.
